It is with sadness that I report the death of British saxophone player Lol Coxhill.

I first stumbled across Lol Coxhill in the early 70’s, as a member of Kevin Ayers
band, “The Whole World”. Shortly thereafter, I found the strange 2LP set “Ear of Beholder”, alas a US copy on Ampex Records. I never got a British Dandelion Records 2LP set, however.
For me, the highlight of his long career are the 2 albums made with keyboard player Stephen Miller, “Coxhill / Miller” and “The Story So Far…Oh Really”. These are absolutely wonderful British jazz albums, in the Canterbury vein.
I will greatly miss his rather English humor and soprano saxophone playing.
