2-7-12 Buena Park Swap Meet
R&B sax genius King Curtis born 1934, folksinger Oscar Brand born 1920; King Curtis played on Coasters’ records!
I went to the Buena Park swap meet the other weekend. It’s the best monthly swap meet for record guys in southern California. I like the Claremont swap meet more (and it’s coming right up!), but that one’s only twice a year.
Here’s a typical haul for Buena Park:
ASHTON, GARDNER & DYKE – RESURRECTION SHUFFLE, CAPITOL US 7”
ENTWISTLE, JOHN – TOO LATE THE HERO, ATCO US 7” 1980 promo
MACK, LONNIE – SAVE YOUR MONEY, ELEKTRA US 7” promo
MATTHEWS, IAN – 7 BRIDGES ROAD, ELEKTRA US 7” 1973 promo
PEOPLE – I LOVE YOU, CAPITOL US 7” Larry Norman in ’68!
SHED SEVEN – GETTING BETTER, POLYDOR UK 7” W/PS red vinyl
STEVENS, CAT – HURT, A&M US 7” W/PS ’73
= = =
HOTLEGS – YOU DIDN’T LIKE IT BECAUSE YOU DIDN’T THINK OF IT, PHILIPS UK LP 10cc re-issue, which is not the same as the CD that got re-issued; more material here!
CREAM – LIVE CREAM Vol. 2, POLYDOR UK LP
ESSEX, DAVID – OUT ON THE STREET, CBS UK LP ’76
ESSEX, DAVID – s/t, CBS UK LP ’74 – his 2nd album? “Rock On” isn’t present!
MICHAELS, LEE – 5TH, A&M UK LP “Do You Know What I Mean”
O.S.T. – GRADUATE, CBS UK LP Simon & Garfunkel
POWELL, BADEN – O PRESTIGIO DE, FONTANA BR LP ’84 collection; Brazilian guitarist
TJADER, CAL – LA ONDA VA BIEN, CONCORD PIC US LP excellent ’80 latin jazz
TRACE – WHITE LADIES, RCA DE LP Rick van der Linden
V.A. – ROCK BEGINS Vol. 1, ATCO US LP ’70 – mostly 50’s 45’s
V.A. – SOLID GOLD SOUL Vol. 2, ATLANTIC US LP ’67 mono; Chris Kenner!
There was also a guy there that had real good progressive rock original LP’s for $3 – without covers! I didn’t buy any, as my copies thereof are all mint-ish. I also bought LP cartons (unassembled) and some 45 and LP plastic protective covers (i.e. bags) from Far West Record Supply. The 45’s were 50 cents each. Most of the LP’s were $2 or $3 each.
I’ve been going to record collector swap meets ever since the mid-1970’s. These days, it feels like I am icing my cake, not baking the cake. Weirdest thing here is the People 45, covering a Zombies song – featuring CCM artist Larry Norman.
Nice to add the David Essex CBS UK LP’s to my glam rock collection, too.
Is that the one on Beach and Stanton? Having a hard time finding this swap meet. Hope you can help me. Would love to comb their stacks for more treasures.
Yes, it’s one street East off of Beach Blvd.,
right across from Knott’s Berry Farm!
