I was always amused by the comedian from Liverpool, Alexei Sayle.  His comedy records from England are all rather wonderful.  I always liked his appearances in anything that The Comic Strip ever did.  Still alive and active, as far as I know.  The other weekend, we watched “The Supergrass”, a Comic Strip movie, and Mr. Sayle was in that one.  So, I started thinking about his stuff once again (no, Alexei isn’t pictured on the DVD box – I understand the DVD is “edited”!!)

“Cak!” is his nightclub comedy LP; a bit hard to follow in places, but genius use of the English language.  His next album, “The Fish People Tapes” is a studio album, with a story of sorts.  His 3rd and final album is produced by Chas Jankel, the man behind The Blockheads – I used to see the video for “Didn’t You Kill My Brother?” on MuchMusic, from Canada.  Sadly, as far as I know, none of his records are on legit CD’s.  Mr. Sayle also wrote books!

He also appears on several ‘various artist’ British comedy LP’s, such as the “Other Sevret Policeman’s Ball” and the Island / Springtime LP by The Comic Strip.

“Advertising”, a B-side found on the 12” of “Meanwhile” is pure genius – a delightful parody on the type of local advertising that is found in movie theatres in England.
